Just because Tucson is in the middle of the desert doesn't mean the scene is barren. There are loads of things to do; the pleasant weather allows for many outdoor activities. For boating, Kennedy Park, Reid Lake Park, and Silverbell Lake are the places to be. Boat launches are available and also paddle boat rentals.

If cycling is your thing, look up the Greater Arizona Bicycling Association. They sponsor a variety of races from beginner to advanced.

Tucson offers several lakes for fishing. Patagonia, Parker Canyon, Pena Blanca and Arivaca are all good fishing sites. Some of the smaller lakes around tucson are even stocked for fishing.

Several hiking trails around town offer a combination of a great workout and breathtaking scenery. Many of these locations are especially good vantage points for sunrise or sunset viewing.For hiking and walking, here are some trails you might want to try: Sabino Canyon, Pima Canyon Trail, Finger Rock Trail, Rillito River Walk, and Madera Canyon.

Tucson has the advantage of desert climate and mountainous terrain. The mountains are a definite advantage for skiing. Mt. Lemmon has slopes for all skill levels as well as lifts, a cable tow, and ski rentals.

Tennis lovers will be happy to know there are more than 150 tennis courts in Tucson, some with lights for night play. If tennis is your racket, check the yellow pages for public courts near your home. Also, take advantage of high school courts, or join a private tennis club.

Anyone who has been there would have to admit that Tucson has its fair share of recreational outlets. From bird-watching to downhill skiing, there is something for everyone.
